YAB Dato Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Prime Minister of Malaysia recited a poetry called "Perjuangan Yang Belum Selesai" during the 4th Malam Puisi, held on 4th May 1996.

Malam Puisi, or Poetry Recital Night, is organized to pique interest and generate awareness among the younger generations about the arts and culture development in the nation especially towards poetry appreciation.

Since its inception, Malam Puisi is eagerly participated by members of the literary fields, artistes, celebrities, corporate figures and discerning members of the public.

Malam Puisi Usman Awang was held on 14th July 1996 in recognition and appreciation of the contributions from the National Laureate
