The Utusan Group is currently the proud publisher of twelve magazines, five newspapers, two electronic newspaper and one local educational portal.
Digital technology is transforming the publishing industry, changing not only the
dependence on traditional usage of paper for publications, but also more importantly the dissemination of information with
CD-ROMs and the Internet that offer alternative and dynamic ways of communication mediums.
Early realization of the vast potential this new media has to offer resulted in heavy investments in both equipment and manpower to fully capitalize on the opportunities created early in this millennium.
Two of the Group's newspapers consistently achieved remarkably high net circulation and readership under the
Bahasa Malaysia category.
Based on the Audited Bureau of Circulation (ABC)'s 2007 (Jan-Jun) and AC
Nielsen's 2007 poll survey results, Utusan Malaysia recorded an average net sales figure of
197,033 copies per issue with 1,099,000 readers, while Mingguan Malaysia recorded an average net sales figure of
459,793 copies per issue with 1,854,000 readers, making it the highest circulated weekly newspaper in the country.
Issues and topics of the magazines published range extensively within current affairs, religion, entertainment, lifestyles and motherhood. Out of the twelve magazines, four of the magazines; Mastika, Mangga, URTV and Wanita, achieved top four highest circulations in the Bahasa Malaysia category in 2007. The top two highest circulation magazines, Mastika and Mangga, recorded a net sales figure of 234,720 copies and 101,568 copies per issue respectively in 2007.
The Group's wholly owned subsidiary,
Utusan Publications & Distributors Sdn Bhd (UP&D), publishes educational books that cover all levels of
education, from pre-school to university. Children's books and other general titles covering subjects such as management,
motivation, religion and womens titles are also published by UP&D.
UP&D is one of the most active publishing houses in Malaysia, producing approximately 150 titles annually in both Bahasa Malaysia and English language.
UP&D is also the largest distributor of local and imported publications (mainly from USA, Europe and Australia) in Malaysia. Most of the books are distributed to institutions of higher learning such as colleges and universities, as well as libraries and government departments and agencies.
In addition, UP&D has a distribution network through more than 300 bookstores and agents in Malaysia. UP&D's books can be purchased from chain bookstores such as MPH and Popular and other bookshops located in most of the towns.
